Custom Stone Console Tables for Hotel Lobbies: A Buyer Specification Checklist

Custom Stone Console Tables for Hotel Lobbies: A Buyer Specification Checklist

Oct 08, 2026

A custom stone console table can give a hotel lobby a clear focal point, but its appearance is only part of the specification. The table must fit the circulation plan, suit its intended use and arrive in a form the project team can safely install. Confirm those requirements before selecting the stone or approving a drawing.

Define the table's role in the lobby

Start with a floor plan showing doors, seating, reception and the routes guests take with luggage. Mark the proposed length and depth of the console on that plan. A table against a wall has different clearance needs from a freestanding piece visible on all sides.

State whether the surface is for display only or may hold lamps, brochures or guest belongings. If guests might lean on it or set down heavy items, tell the fabricator so the support and stability requirements can be assessed for that use.

Select stone in the project's lighting

Onyx, marble and travertine create different visual effects under lobby lighting. Review a physical sample beside the planned wall, floor and metal finishes. For highly patterned stone, approve the expected range of color and veining across the finished tabletop and base, not just a small sample.

Confirm the surface finish, edge profile and cleaning instructions as part of the material approval. The MARS Home Decor materials collection provides options to discuss, but the final choice should match the hotel's maintenance routine as well as its design concept.

Review the complete construction

A drawing should show more than overall dimensions. Ask for the tabletop thickness, base footprint, joint positions and any proposed reinforcement or fixing details. Check how the table will sit on the finished floor and whether it needs to align with wall panels, mirrors or lighting above it.

Discuss the installation route early. Confirm access through loading areas, doors and lifts, as well as whether the piece will arrive assembled or in sections. Packaging, handling equipment and installation responsibilities should be agreed before the purchase order is finalized.
